In today’s video breakdown out of Brunswick, Georgia we analyze the killing caught on tape of Ahmaud Arbery by Gregory McMichael, Travis McMichael, and Brian Williams. Some have compared it to a modern day lynching, and I wholeheartedly agree with that description. However, the court in Georgia may not see it that way and could let the McMichaels off the hook. I’ll share with you my own insights as a self defense firearms instructor and as someone that’s a good deal more familiar with self defense law than your average laymen or gun owner.
In this breakdown we will cover:
1) How the courts could justify the actions of the McMichaels in a gross miscarry of justice.
2) Go over the 5 legal and moral principles of self defense. (Innocence, Immanence, Avoidance, Reasonableness, Proportionality)
3) Go over what you could do to defend yourself if you are in a similar situation.

Armed Margins is a firearm instruction project that specifically aims to increase access to guns for marginalized and vulnerable folks. We are challenging and changing gun culture. We aren’t about valorizing violence or hypermasculine posturing. We recognize that violence in any society is structured to benefit some and dominate others. Guns alone can’t fix that, but armed community defense and neighbors coming together to make decisions about their own lives, rather than politicians is a good start.
